Our Mission
The Tomorrow Prize for Los Angeles County high school students and The Roswell Award for writers worldwide are short science fiction writing competitions that inspire up-and-coming storytellers to explore their craft and dream up tomorrow’s ideas. Each year, we honor the competition finalists with a live staged reading of their stories featuring celebrity guests. Founded by Sci-Fest L.A. six years ago, thousands of writers from dozens of countries and from high schools across L.A. have participated in our sci-fi writing journey. Now, with a precipitous decline in funding for the literary arts, we need your help.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by July 31. This will pay for one-year of the competitions: outreach, the readings, program management, and prizes.
How do we benefit from science fiction writing? Sci-fi encourages imagination, novel ideas, exploring today’s problems through different lenses and perspectives, and reflecting on our technological progress and the intersection of science and society. And it’s a means to examine the moral and ethical challenges of our time. Sci-fi has inspired some of the world’s greatest inventions and deepest thinking. What’s more, it inspires teens and adults alike to find confidence in their voices. We need science fiction writing more than ever.

“I wanted to extend my genuine appreciation for the creation of this event. I like the personal touch. It’s heartwarming that in this time of crisis, we are still able to connect more deeply than ever before. On a personal note, I am super excited because it will give me an opportunity to take a break from my personal anxieties. There is a lot of loss in my life. Anyways, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
